A.R. Rahman, composer of the music of Rang De Basanti was his usual cool self, and accepted the award for the song of the year Masti ki paathshala with characteristic modesty from NDTV. The music of Rang De Basanti has topped the charts since early this year. So it's no surprise that NDTV viewers have voted this as the song of the year.
"I am happy. When I composed it, I just told Rakyesh that this is what I want," said A.R. Rahman.
Rahman is presently in Delhi for the launch of a video Pray for me brother, a joint enterprise of the A.R. Rahman foundation and a mobile phone company.
With three songs short listed for the Academy Awards, Rahman is rather upbeat, and he is also waiting for the opening of the stage adaptation of the Lord of the Rings, as he has composed the sound track for it.
"I am turning 40. They say things look up when you are 40," says Rahman. With so much to look forward to, the New Year is sure to be a happy one for the composer.
