Oscar award winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty, who was in Hyderabad recently to work on his latest project Pazhassi Raja, said that life has been "a roller coaster ride" ever since he was awarded the golden statuette.
"I am treading on my career path carefully now. There is suddenly a huge interest in my work. I feel like a hero who has had three flops and is now awaiting the release of his mega project Pazhassi Raja," Pookutty said, adding that in India, technicians like him are still ignored.
"People are appreciating the technical details in Slumdog Millionaire internationally. But in India, the technicians who work hard for the success of a film are still doomed to remain the background. Even when Ghajini released, I was shocked to see that my name was not on the poster. I had to confront Aamir Khan for my recognition. I want to believe things will change. I am not asking anyone to turn us into heroes, but to give us our due credit."
Getting more than his due credit, Resul's kitty is full of new projects now. He has just finished doing the sound for a French film and is being flooded with international offers. But right now, he is concentrating only on Pazhassi Raja.
"The film didn't have a single back ground sound. So I took it up as a challenge and had to work from scratch. Since it is a period piece, every detail, from battle sounds to footsteps of brahmins who don't wear leather footwear, had to be researched and constructed live."
