A few months back, there was a big debate over which movie should be India 's official entry to the Oscar Awards. Rang De Basanti was selected to be the official Indian entry for the academy awards.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra then sent Rajkumar Hirani's Lage Raho Munnabhai as an independent entry to the Oscars. However, the latest news is that neither of films made it to into the final shortlist. Rang De Basanti, the official entry from India and Lage Raho Munnabhai did not get shortlisted in the Best Foreign Film category.
Interestingly, Deepa Mehta's Water got selected in the same category. Though Water is an Indian tale, it is an official entry from Canada for the Oscars. The final five entries in the Foreign Film Category at the Oscar Awards this year will be announced on January 23.
