Akshay Kumar had been adjudged the Star of the Year (male) for his performance in Heyy Babby and Kareena Kapoor bagged the award for the Star of the Year (female) award for her performance in Jab We Met at the recently-held Max Stardust Awards 2008. Kareena’s co-star in Jab We Met, Shahid Kapoor, won the Editor’s Choice Award for Best Actor. The movie also won the Best Film Award.
The awards, instituted by Stardust film magazine and Max movie channel, were given recently during a ceremony held on January 26. Om Shanti Om bagged three awards, the Dream Director Award for Farah Khan, the award for Best Actor in a negative role (male) for Arjun Rampal, and the award for Breakthrough Performance (male) for Shreyas Talpade. Kangana Ranaut took the award for Breakthrough Performance (female) for her performance in Life… in a Metro.
Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chak De India also walked away with three awards including the Hottest Young Film Director award for Shimit Amin, The New Menace award for Shilpa Shukla, and the New Musical Sensation (male) for Krishna and Salim Merchant. Saawariya also bagged several awards this year including Standout Performance by a Music Director Award for Monty Sharma for 'Maule Mere', Standout Performance by Lyricist award for Sandeep Nath and Superstar of Tomorrow award for Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in the male and female categories respectively.
Vivek Oberoi was presented with the Standout Performance of the Year for his film, Shootout At Lokhandwala; veteran actor Dharmendra was given the Actor Par Excellence award. Irrfan Khan (The Namesake) and Tisca Chopra (Taare Zameen Par) were awarded the Best Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role respectively. Meanwhile, Anil Kapoor walked away with the Hottest Film Producer award for his film, Gandhi My Father. Anoushka Manachanda was given the New Musical Sensation (female) award for her number, 'Aye Chori' from Cash.
