Model-turned-actress Deepika Padukone is the talk of the town. She has won accolades for her stunning performance in the recent blockbuster hit Om Shanti Om. Her gorgeous looks and superb acting skills have made her, the new sensation of Bollywood. Only a few know that Om Shanti Om is her first Bollywood movie but not her acting debut.
The modeling diva made her entry into films with the Kannada movie, Aishwarya, starring Upendra in the lead. Deepika’s performance in Aishwarya was very much appreciated.The movie by Indrajith Lankesh tells the story of a ad executive Abhishek Hegde (Upendra) who hates woman, but things change when he meets Aishwarya, played by Deepika Padukone. The film, which was highly successful at the Kannada box office, was re-released by PVR Cinemas in Mumbai recently, marketing it as her real debut.
In her Kannada debut she was paired with Kannada superstar Upendra, and with Bollywood heartthrob Shah Rukh Khan in her Bollywood debut.
Deepika has been the most sought-after face in the modeling industry and have done several advertisement campaigns both in print and television. Some of her endorsements include, Liril Soap, Close Up, Motorola, Maybeline New York, RMKV Silks, Deepam Sarees and Maruti Alto. Deepika was chosen as one of the models for the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar for 2006. The sultry model grabbed two awards at the Idea Zee F Awards in 2006 for Female Model of the Year and Fresh Face of the year. She is also the brand ambassador for Kingfisher Airlines.
Daughter of Prakash Padukone, the former World Badminton champion, has also taken initial training from the Anupam Kher School of acting.
