In a bid to show Islam as a religion of peace, noted film-maker Mahesh Bhatt will shortly begin a film Suicide Bomber on the 7th July suicide bombings in London which left 56 people dead. These attacks in the British capital targeted three underground trains and a double-decker bus, just as British Prime Minister Tony Blair was hosting a Group of Eight summit in Scotland. The dead included four suicide bombers, all Muslims; of them, three were born and raised in Britain of Pakistani immigrant parents.
Suicide Bomber in Hindi will star Bhatt's son Rahul as of a young Asian Muslim planning to trigger the London blasts.
"The movie is inspired by the London bombings and my son will make his film debut by playing the key role of the suicide bomber who is of Asian origin. I have been researching on the script since the bombings and through the movie I plan to highlight that Islam is a religion of peace and not dreadful as it is perceived by the world. I will attempt to bring out the virtues of Islamic living and also show how the state (government) can sometimes be a demon. The film will delve into the heart and mind of a suicide bomber," Bhatt said.
He further said his budget would be 50 million rupees ($1.1 million) and will start in June, with a release by December 2006. Shooting will be in London and India.
Bhatt, a celebrated Bollywood filmmaker with a number of hits in the last three decades, is known for tackling bold scripts, often inspired by Hollywood.
