Just as Shilpa Shetty’s musical ‘Miss Bollywood’ finished its last show at the Royal Albert Hall in London; came the news of yet another India-centric musical all set to take the centre stage.
Acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair’s 2001 hit, Monsoon Wedding, is all set to become the first Indian movie to be adapted as a musical. The musical would star two reputed film stars whose names are still under wraps.
The three-act stage version of Monsoon Wedding, to be shown on Broadway, would be directed by Mira Nair herself and produced by the producers of the 2002 award-winning musical ‘Hairspray’.
Mira also said that the musical would have a few of the old songs as well as some new additions, which would be suitable for a stage format. Mira Nair, whose last big release was The Namesake, is currently in Dubai promoting her series of short films on AIDS awareness.
