Perizaad Zorabian - Shabana Azmi film Morning Raga which depicts the coming together of the modern and traditional forms of music, has not been nominated for Oscar awards. Why?
Playwright and filmmaker Mahesh Dattani said, “The film had been merely submitted for consideration in the mainstream awards category of the annual Academy Awards. There is a lot of misinformation going on that it has been nominated for the Oscars. It hasn’t. The submission has been accepted by the Academy and it is among the 300-odd films whose applications meet the criteria.”
Therefore Morning Raga would not be competing with Amol Palekar’s Paheli - India’s official nominee in the Best Foreign Language Film category - but has to compete against Hollywood biggies to secure a nomination in the Oscar Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Music and Best Director categories.
Nominations for the 78th edition of the Academy Awards are scheduled to be announced on January 31 this year. The official awards ceremony is on March 5, 2006.
