The Supreme Court granted interim bail today (20th August) to Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and five others in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. All the bail applications were heard simultaneously. Bail was granted on the grounds that none of these persons have received the final judgement copies, so they are handicapped and unable to appeal against the said sentences. They will be out on bail until they get the judgement copies only. Of course, their lawyer is upbeat and plans to apply again for bail on receiving the judgement copies.
But since Mumbai High Court is closed today (on account of Parsi New Year), Sanjay will not be released today from Yerwada jail, Pune, where he has been serving his sentence since 21 days. In all probability, he should be released tomorrow. Celebrations are being held outside Yerwada jail right now. Sanjay's family members and film personalities are overjoyed at this news. His sister Priya Dutt says this is the most welcome rakhi gift.
