2007 is coming to a close and it's that time of the year when Bollywood followers across world would go on an overdrive to list down the best of the business in the showbiz. Lions Club SOL International has already taken a start on this and announced its awards for 2007.
In a glittering event held on Saturday, December 1. 2007 at Mumbai, Sanjay Khanduri was adjudged as ‘Best Upcoming Director of the year’ for his black comedy Ek Chalis Ki Last Local. The film starring Abhay Deol, Neha Dhupia and Deepak Shirke had released earlier this year and made its presence felt amongst the connoisseurs of cinema with its crisp narrative.
Says Khanduri, "This is my first award for the film and of course it means a lot to me. After all the support and appreciation I got after the release of the film, an award like this comes as a shot in the arm. It proves yet again that there is a world out there which is interested in seeing a story told in a new format."
Khanduri got married less than a fortnight ago. So it seems the beginning of a new phase in his life, already going in a right direction? Laughs Sanjay, "Well, it's been just 11 days and my lady in life seems to be bringing in some lucky charm for me. I am sure my well-wishers would continue to lend their support to me and ensure that I make the right films."
Others who graced the event and received awards for their effort this year were: Shahid Kapoor - Best male actor of the year for Jab We Met, Deepika Padukone - Best debutant of the year for Om Shanti Om, Arjun Rampal - Best actor in a negative role for Om Shanti Om, Kunal Kapoor - Best actor in a supporting role for Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, David Dhawan - Best entertaining film of the year for Partner, Rajpal Yadav - Lions Bold actor of the year for Undertrial.
