The Indian Film Company has acquired the worldwide rights for the eagerly-awaited Imtiaz Ali's untitled film, produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd., a premium content production and distribution company that has produced hits like Golmaal and Bhaagam Bhag last year.
The film, a musical romantic comedy set in North India, starring Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor, is slated for release in October this year. Acclaimed music director Pritam has composed the score for the film. The title of the film is being chosen through a consumer contest and will be revealed at the end of this week.
The Indian Film Company now has theatrical, home video, music and satellite rights of the film and has assigned distribution of the said rights to Studio 18 for exploitation. Says Sandeep Bhargava, adviser to the board of The Indian Film Company, "Imtiaz's film shows a lot of promise and with our distribution expertise, combined with Shree Ashtavinayak's tremendous marketing strength, we would be able to make our investment very lucrative. Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. excels in producing quality films and our audiences are sure to enjoy this content."
The Indian Film Company is a specialist film investment company, which was admitted to trading on the AIM market in June 2007 and raised £55 million to invest in a diverse portfolio of Indian films targeted at the Indian audiences across varying genre, language and budgets.
The Indian Film Company will seek to enter into arrangements relating to film projects where the group retains full ownership of all intellectual property rights relating to each film project although ownership may be shared with co-producers where necessary. The broad objective of the group is to build a film library of intellectual property rights in various formats, such as satellite, home video and mobile technology.
